Clones Family Resource Centre (FRC) is a locally based community development and family support project based in Clones, Co. Monaghan. It was established in 2008 and its main aims and objectives are to identify and address issues of social exclusion and poverty in Clones town and the surrounding rural area.
The focus of the work is to empower the community to identify their own needs and explore solutions to best address these needs and to create successful partnerships between voluntary and statutory agencies at community level. Clones FRC aims to assist local people to have an improved quality of life and a sense of wellbeing through encouraging equality, participation, community ownership and a recognition of the diversity of families. Clones FRC receives its core funding from Tusla, Child and Family Agency.
Current activities include:
- Provision of a range of low-cost, therapeutic services for children and adults
- Beacon Family Support project: specially trained family support workers who offer a helping hand to families at a point of their need
- Run family support programmes and events in the Centre
- Support the development of various groups in the community and provide facilities to support them where necessary. Examples include Clones Women’s Shed, Different Keys Choir, Baby & Toddler Group, Cool Kids Club
- Provide a support and information service to the local community on various rights, entitlements and housing issues. Referral support to appropriate agencies when necessary
- Social Prescribing project to support adults who are experiencing loneliness and isolation with the aim of linking them back into activities, learning and local community groups
- Charity shop, Second Time ‘Round to provide affordable pre-loved clothes to local people and act as a social hub in the community
- Panic Buttons for older people aged 65 and over

- Supporting, encouraging and providing opportunities to individuals and families, groups and communities
- Networking and working in partnership with community, voluntary and statutory organisations
- Maintaining and developing a strong, vibrant organisation that works well together as a team
Objectives:
Children, their families and the broader community will:
- Be more aware and more active in pursuit of their own health, have greater confidence and improved mental health, be freer to talk about health issues and be more resilient.
- Be aware of learning opportunities, within and outside of Clones, that are appropriate to their needs and interests, be supported in overcoming barriers to accessing learning and, as a result, will actively participate in learning, have greater self- confidence, increased employment, and more fulfilled lives.
- Have the skills, confidence and knowledge to pursue employment opportunities and the support and capacity to access economic resources, which will enable them to have greater dignity and a better quality of life.
- Be part of groups and networks, which will build confidence and positivity in the community, give them a stronger voice and ensure better sharing of, and access to, resources.
